THINGS WE CAN WALK TO

A lot of people will move into our neighborhood and rave about the woods, and how nice it is to back up to conservation land with a trail system ... but my guess is that nine out of ten will never even set foot back there. Bugs, snakes, who knows what's out there!?

Our dogs drag me out for a walk in the woods every single day, though -- rain or shine, I'm out there. Not to mention snowshoes in the winter. Sometimes I'd rather sleep in (and sometimes I do) but most of the time I cherish that daily time outdoors.

Unfortunately, for six years those walks have required a car ride, since there's nowhere woodsy you can walk to from our house in North Andover. But once we're living at Littles Hill, I'll be able to walk right out my back door and into the woods -- can you imagine how that will change the way we live? At minimum, it means an extra 20 minutes or so in my day, since I spend about 10 minutes driving to and from the state forest every morning now.

It also means we might be able to have two nice cars again, instead of one nice car and a "dogmobile" that we never, NEVER let anyone see the inside of! :-0

So now you understand the purpose of this page ... a chance to share pictures of some things I can walk to on my daily travels. I'll add more over time as I explore more of the woods that surround Littles Hill. Enjoy!

This is actually one back corner of our lot, which has a little trail running through it.

An old stone wall I found, deep in the woods.

A pretty meadow (or swamp, Bill calls it) not too far from Littles Hill.

It's not all woods and wilderness -- I discovered we can walk to CVS. Not sure what that's useful for (unless I want to carry a gallon of milk through the woods back to the house) but you never know.

A horse, checking us out while we're checking him out.

The Georgetown Shopping Plaza. What would we do without a tanning salon and a lamp repair shop within walking distance?!

Town Hall, currently being renovated. I think this color might be visible from the moon.

More pictures coming later. The dogs won't go exploring with me when it's hot out -- they literally stop in their tracks and won't go down new trails -- so we may not do much over the summer, but come fall we'll find lots of new things to take pictures of.

For New Home Buyers!

Are you finding your way through the sometimes exhilarating, sometimes exhausting process of buying a new construction home? Feeling overwhelmed by all the decisions you have to make?

Join "New Construct" -- the e-mail list created especially for new and custom home buyers. We're all at different stages in the process, and we're all happy to talk about finding a buildable lot, choosing a house plan, Corian vs. granite, prefinished vs. traditional hardwood, and all the other millions of details that go into buying and building a new home! Builders and do-it-yourselfers are welcome too, but this list is focused on those going through the process for the first time -- the folks like me who wouldn't have known an "inch and a quarter overlay" cabinet door if it landed on them!
