SITE PORTFOLIO

The chart below highlights some sites from my work portfolio and describes my specific involvement in each. A number of sites that are restricted to MIT community members are not included here, but I'd be happy to demo or share screen shots of those sites with clients upon request.

Note that the "see it" links to each site are real-time; it's possible that the design, content or structure of a site may have changed since I first developed it.

MIT AWARDS
Notes: This site's complex home page includes two separate rollover navigations, a rollover "quotes" area and a randomly-rotating background image. All elements had to be coded to work consistently in Internet Explorer, Netscape and Safari.
BENEFITS
Notes: Prior to my redesign, this sprawling site was difficult for MIT employees to navigate. The current design cleanly separates a substantial content base into consistent, navigable areas and includes a special "forms and publications" link for quick access to frequently-used forms.
BUSINESS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
CAREER PLANNING
CHATTER BY THE CHARLES TOASTMASTERS CLUB
Notes: Formerly known as PLC Toastmasters, this Club's site is undergoing a complete redesign and will re-launch as Chatter by the Charles in December 2003.
FMLA
Notes: This site takes the complex and detailed Family & Medical Leave Act policy at MIT and presents it in a friendly, approachable, step-by-step manner to MIT employees.
HUMAN RESOURCES TOP-LEVEL PAGES
Notes: The redesign and structure of the top-level HR pages was already underway by a design firm when I started work at MIT. I guided HR in determining which services should appear in the top menus, introducing the concept of balancing what employees would want to find (benefits information) with less well-known areas that we want to promote (for example, affirmative action). I also added the A-Z index as a fallback for visitors who are unwilling or unable to effectively use the category-based menus.
LEARNING TOPICS
Notes: These content-rich learning topics are unique in that this type of material is rarely shared freely on the web.
NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION
PERFORMANCE REVIEWS
STAFFING SERVICES
Notes: Years of managing web sites with multiple brands at ZDNet allows me to easily manage co-brands, like this one between Staffing Services at MIT and WebHire, the vendor which hosts the job postings at MIT. Note the seamless transition between Staffing Services and WebHire pages.
STAFF QUALITY OF LIFE
TECHNOLOGY CHILDRENS CENTER
Notes: This site uses rotating images in the main banner to showcase life at the Center.
WEB-BASED TRAINING AT MIT

LITTLES HILL
Notes: Future plans for this site include rotating photos in the banners to keep the site fresh.
MAINE WOOD & DESIGN
Notes: Includes a showcase portfolio of custom store designs by this firm.
BMDCNV
Notes: This site includes a large, popular online shopping store for Bernese Mountain Dog owners. It's designed for comfortable browsing for visitors as well as for ease of maintenance for tracking and adding new items.
ZDNET TECH UPDATE
Notes: This site has changed quite a bit (and become much less extensive) since I was the technical lead for it. Other ZDNet sites for which I held lead technical responsibility: eWEEK, Inter@ctive Week, ZDNet Careers, 14 content-rich "resource centers" on IT topics, ZDNet E-Commerce, and ZDNet Small Business.
